The apprentice - you're hired!

09/03/08

Ashley Goodman aged 16 and Jason Delaney aged 19 are fast on their way to becoming fully-qualified tradesmen with HomeZone. They are the Repair Team's latest apprentices, and will help deliver day-to-day maintenance to the association's 4,500 properties.

Ashley commented: "Learning out in the real world is a complete change to classroom learning, my communication skills have grown and I really feel part of the team."

HomeZone, part of Bromford Housing Group, recently launched the scheme to help combat a present skills-shortage within the industry.

Jason Holder, Assistant Director for Property Services at HomeZone, said:

"We recognised the need to look forward to keep your business ahead of the competition. With the present skills-shortage it is particularly important to invest in training to ensure new young people move into the industry.

"Apprenticeships ensure that young people have the practical skills as training is on-the-job, that way you can make sure they learn the skills that work best for the business."
