Awards for community champions.

01/03/08

People who've made an outstanding difference to their community have been celebrated at a glittering awards ceremony in Manchester. Nominations were invited last month and a judging panel of neighbourhood workers had the difficult task of sifting through these to find the ultimate community champions.

New Charter plans to hold the event each year as a public thank you for the many tenants and owner-occupiers who contribute so much to the life of their communities. Residents who had courageously provided witness statements to tackle anti-social behaviour were also honoured. The audience included representatives from all tenant and resident associations across the Group.

Winners ages ranged from 12-80 and they were presented with a specially engraved award in recognition of their outstanding contribution.

New Charter's Director of Tenancy Services, Tony Powell, said:

"This has been a wonderful celebration of what makes our neighbourhoods great. We have invested much in the homes and environment, but on its own, that isn't enough. We need champions like our award winners to help us make the difference in peoples' lives."

And the winners were.
