Working together to fight ASB.

28/01/08

Anti-social behaviour affects everyone in different ways. Whether it's the odd car driving past with music blaring or the neighbours having a heated argument, we all learn to live with it in small doses. The problem starts when you have to live with it every waking hour of every working day. It ruins your whole way of life!

That's why HomeZone have been working in partnership with Staffordshire Police and Lichfield District Council to take a firm stance on persistent nuisance neighbours, and combat anti-social behaviour.

The partnership works together with nuisance neighbours through intervention projects, trying to persuade them to change their behaviour and resolve problems before they escalate out of hand.

The successful partnership has already seen demotion orders granted and prolific offenders being evicted.

Jane Bax, Community Safety Co-ordinator for HomeZone, said:

"Demotion and eviction notices are only used as a last resort when all other options have been exhausted. Unfortunately, this was the case recently when a nuisance neighbour was evicted after making his neighbours lives a misery."

Cllr Val Richards, Lichfield District Council's Cabinet Member for Community, Housing and Health, said:

"People often believe they are eligible to be re-housed when they have been evicted. However, we investigate all circumstances surrounding an eviction and if we discover it was caused by their anti-social behaviour they will not be eligible for re-housing. We therefore urge residents to have community pride, act responsibly and show consideration for neighbours and landlords."
