Bloomin' marvellous.

Residents from a New Charter housing estate are celebrating as they scooped more success in the Royal Horticultural Society Neighbourhood Awards. Central Estate in Dukinfield took the Merit award for its entry. This success follows hot-foot from a similar North West in Bloom award in 2006 - so they're building up quite a trophy cabinet!

Fred Talbot presents Taff Jeffery of Central in Bloom with the Merit award

Tenant representatives were at Manchester Town Hall to hear the results of the summer judging. Both the Royal Horticultural Society Neighbourhood and the North West in Bloom Awards were presented to the winners by popular Granada TV weatherman Fred Talbot in front of 350 guests.

Belinda Jeffery, Central resident commented:

"This is wonderful recognition of the efforts we and many of our neighbours have made. But it's not just a summer effort as the hard work takes place all year round to achieve the colourful results. The support we have from New Charter and its grounds maintenance contractor Service Team is welcome, but to be a winner we have shown ours is truly a community effort. It's great to see our neighbourhood rubbing shoulders with the best in the North West."
