Building futures - introducing the next generation of tradesmen.

03/11/07

A new project which gives pupils 'hands-on' experience of the building trade has been launched in Droitwich High School by Spa Housing Association, part of Festival Housing Group.

The Skills4Life scheme is aimed at giving youngsters an introduction into a trade and addressing the skills shortage in the building industry. It's a great way for pupils to sneak a peek at what life's really like training to be a plumber, bricklayer, carpenter, plasterer, electrician or painter and decorator. The group of 15-year-old pupils will take part in regular training sessions on Spa building sites, learning about building and maintenance work.

Spa Director, Clare Huyton, commented:

"It should provide a valuable bridge between school and work, and if it is successful we will roll it out to other areas throughout Worcestershire and Herefordshire."
