Community regeneration gets the royal seal of approval.

30/10/07

HRH The Princess Royal visited a Worcester estate to see first-hand how a partnership approach to regeneration has breathed new life into the community.

Pat Brandum, Chief Exec of West Mercia Housing Group greets HRH The Princess Royal

West Mercia Housing Group, worked closely with Worcestershire County Council and Worcester City Council on a £15 million project to improve facilities for residents on the Brickfields estate.

The housing association completed a new 66-home development, including properties for affordable rent and shared ownership. The Fairfield Regeneration Scheme shows how much can be achieved when organisations work together using their specific expertise to complement each other on a wider project. And staff and residents were on hand to show the Princess around the school, new medical centre and neighbourhood centre on the Fairfield community campus.

Pat Brandum commented:

"HRH The Princess Royal was genuinely interested in the project and the way we have worked together to develop a mixed-tenure estate which meets the needs of local people.

"We were able to provide new, high-quality affordable housing to address a housing shortage. And the programme has given a real boost to residents in the area and there is now a real sense of community spirit".
