More than just a 'thank you'.

Residents who go the extra mile to improve their community will be awarded official qualifications for their achievements, thanks to a new initiative from the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).
Tenant Participation and Neighbourhood Renewal are some of the subjects included in 'Active Learning for Residents'. Unlike traditional educational programmes, it assesses people's skills and knowledge through practical experiences, rather than through coursework and exams.
BromfordHousing is one of the ten associations piloting the project. Gina McNicholas, Bromford's Customer Relations Manager, explains why they got involved:
"We are going to be rewarding those customers who are actively passionate about where they live, their environment and their local community. We hope that by empowering our customers to take pride and ownership it will lead to customer-led estate management and also prepare customers for Board recruitment."
Active Learning for Residents aims to encourage more people to work in the housing sector, as well as create better neighbourhoods. Supported by the Academy for Sustainable Communities, the pilot project will run for 18 months from November 2006.
